Location: Sterling, Virginia

A Estimator is responsible to prepare competitive job estimates by interpreting drawings, bid documents, performing take offs for labor, equipment and materials and various other functions including, but not limited to: 

  • Read, understand and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, estimate to be 95% complete prior to formal review with Chief Estimator
  • Prepare rough schedule of project for determining time frame
  • Review estimated productions with superintendents to finalize the bid
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred
  • 3-5  years previous related experience is required in heavy civil work
  • Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned
  • Must develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers as well as local government office
  • Ability to perform complete and accurate project take offs and estimates
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors
  • Must be able to prepare letters that present a concise and logical point of view

  • Accounting Software
