Assistant Project Manager

Location: Chantilly, Virginia

Independence Excavating, Inc., a nationally recognized industry leader in challenging site development, demolition, environmental remediation and concrete crushing seeks to fill the position of an Assistant Project Manager for completion of high profile projects throughout the country. Position responsible for establishing, tracking and managing project schedules and ensuring that critical path requirements are achieved. Position offers full benefits including healthcare. An Assistant Project Manager is responsible for various functions including, but not limited to:

  • Prepare, review and return submittals for items to be manufactured or provided
  • Work with Superintendent/Operation’s Manager to determine equipment & crew needs
  • Assemble job cost codes for projects and regularly update
  • Coordinate subcontractors and material deliveries on major items
  • Review and approve subcontractor / supplier estimates & invoices
  • Negotiate, close and coordinate all Extra Work Orders and COR’s for changes in project scope
  • Monitor production, resource utilization and overall job cost versus estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects
  • Prepare monthly job cost/profit projections


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required and Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred
  • At least 5 years’ experience working primarily in the management of large commercial construction projects
  • Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned
  • Must develop positive working relationships with owners and project engineers as well as local government offices
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budget, schedule, people, and quality of work at multiple construction sites
  • Must be competent to performing complete and accurate project take offs and estimates
